Message from President KANEKO Takehiko

Wayo Women's University was founded in 1897 by Chiyo Horikoshi as Wayo Sewing Women's Institute, pioneering the transition from Japanese-style clothing (kimono) to Western-style clothing in education. Over time, modern society has changed at a speed beyond imagination. Things like today's AI generation were unimaginable when the internet first became widely used. Nowadays, we are required to think about how to utilize advanced technology, and the value of traditional ways of thinking and real experiences is being questioned more than ever.
I graduated from the Shinshu University School of Medicine and then specialized in basic medical research in graduate school. While building my career as a board-certified dermatologist, I had the opportunity to engage in basic research at New York University. Recently, I have been supporting top athletes as a certified sports doctor at the Olympics as well as at international events abroad. We want to make the most of our various experiences for the future of all of you studying at Wayo Women's University.
We take each student's individuality and potential seriously, and support them in finding the courage to take the first step. The world's population is projected to exceed 10 billion by the 2050s. Let's learn together so that you can make a bigger difference in the world and bring happiness to more people.
KANEKO Takehiko
President of Wayo Women’s University
