Spring Summer Winter Fall 8 Wayo Women's University C ampus Life Wayo Women’s University is located close to Tokyo. After class, students can enjoy going around central Tokyo or other popular spots near the campus. There are lots of shopping malls, nice restaurants and cafés, museums, libraries, movie theaters and so on. Being the largest city in the world, Tokyo, offers excellent concerts and performing arts events. Some favorite places for students to visit include Yokohama’s China Town, the Sumo facili- ties in Ryogoku, Tokyo Disney Resort, Sensou-ji historic temple, Electric Town in Akihaba- ra, and trendy Harajuku. Depending on the season, you can enjoy cherry blossom picnics in April, fireworks in July and August, autumn leaf viewing in the fall, and traditional Japa- nese New Year’s customs like visiting a shrine or ringing a temple bell. Students can easily do something exciting off campus, but many students enjoy activities on campus, too. Some enjoy reading, watching movies with surround sound in the com- fortable Academic Resource Center, or playing table tennis in the recreation room. Many students also take part in club activities. Wayo has a wide variety of clubs that cover interests from the practice of traditional Japanese culture, to sports and dance. Some of the clubs practice very hard every day to win competitions or to get prizes. Others meet once a week and enjoy spending time together. It’s a good chance to make new friends and talk with students in different grades and majors. Clubs and Circles Tea Ceremony (Omote-senke Style) Calligraphy Ikebana (Flower Arrangement) Broadcasting Basketball Ensemble Table Tennis, Volunteering, English Speaking Society, Manga, Futsal, Dancing, Ski, Chorus, Photography, and many more. Some of the events are related to Japanese traditions and some are international events. Campus Events Freshman Welcome Party Our academic year starts in April, the same time as the cherry blossom season. Senior members of the student union welcome new students and explain campus life. Many clubs introduce their activities and also put on various performances. Tanabata Festival Tanabata is traditionally celebrated on July 7. Students write their wishes on tanzaku (pa- per strips) and make origami ornaments to hang on bamboo branches. Halloween Students decorate the entrance square at the end of October. Student Union staff give sweets to students. School Culture Festival The most exciting event on our campus is the School Culture Festival. At the festival, there are fashion shows, a concert by professional musicians, talk events, club perfor- mances, and lots of demonstrations and food made by clubs or volunteer teams plus a home coming day for alumnae. Wayo welcomes the public to our campus for this festival. Winter Holiday Party The student union holds a Christmas party in December. Many students enjoy club per- formances, eating a Christmas dinner and cakes, and bingo games.
